Chipping Away

The other week I had an absolute blast shooting a video for my cousin's, Céline (AKA Sully), grade 12 English ISU (independent study unit). She was tasked with making a 5 minute video pertaining to Oscar Wilde's 'The Portrait of Dorian Gray'; either an interview, a trailer, a spoof... naturally when Sully and I started brainstorming a spoof is what was chosen. We came up with the concept, she wrote the outline and came up with the focus of the film, and gathered the cast comprised of family and friends. The film is complete, I can't wait to see the finished product... as soon as I can get my hands on it I will put it up on youtube!

Today: SAW video club membership application complete! Next step is going downtown, paying my membership fee, and checking out the facilities.
Independent Filmmakers Cooperative of Ottawa (IFCO) membership inquiry email sent, application printed out and completed.

Actors work in restaurants and bars while they work on getting their big break; I work at the pool and a gym... do what you can now, to get where you want to go!

Back in the Saddle

It's been ages! Ages since I've posted, and ages since I've entered an editing room. This Wednesday I'm going in... I recently had a motivating chat with my professor from Algonquin College, Peter, and he is encouraging to dive back into what I love most; film.

I've been feeling so lost since school ended in May. What do I want to do... More importantly, how will I get there? It's become totally apparent to me that the path I'm on now is not my forever plan: lifeguarding and customer service at a gym. These jobs were never meant to be permanent, however i haven't been making enough of an effort on what should have been my #1 focus up to this point: my career search.

I'm about to get real corny, but tonight at the Golden Globes, Morgan Freeman said that if you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life... Obviously he isn't the original author of this wisdom, but thank you Morgan Freeman for reminding me to aim a little higher!

I am joining SAW Video, I'm rebooting working on a few unfinished projects from last year, and I'm going to look into doing a 24 hour film challenge with some of my peers at the end of this month.

I want to work in the biz, and if I want it as bad as I know want it, I'm going to have to work a heck of a lot harder to reach my goals (and ultimately my potential). It's time to build a portfolio, design my life as I want it.

Let's go!
